about

Just a year and a week after his award-winning album "Skeletons, Skeletons, Skeletons" was released in 2022,
Melbourne based artist Damon Smith is releasing “A Fresh Harvest From Old Seeds” another blues flavoured
LP – proving that he's well and truly in a purple patch of creativity and not one for wasting time.

‘Skeletons…’ which was shortlisted for the Music Victoria Awards Best Blues Roots release, also saw Damon
take out the prestigious Melbourne Blues Appreciation Society’s Chris Wilson Award for the Emerging Act of
the Year and reach #2 on the Australian Blues & Roots Airplay Charts. A great achievement for Smith’s first
ever blues release.

Produced by Jeff Lang and featuring WA based guitarist Dave Brewer – two artists Smith has long respected -
‘A Fresh Harvest From Old Seeds’ (on American label Momojo Records) is in many ways a musical nod to his
acclaimed 2021 film 'Mental As Everything' which screened internationally and took out several awards.

With songs written within a whirlwind timeline of Jan-Feb 2023 and recorded live and engineered by Myles
Mumford in March this album is a powerful testament to the potency of change, and with Smith’s sardonic
and wry humor he suggests that maybe it’s time we all take a long look in a mirror. Keeping his popular New
Orleans piano style in check, Smith also plays plenty of guitar and organ on the record with songs like ‘Push
Right Through’ and ‘Darlin’ achieving the swagger from the likes of a Tony Joe White track. Smith’s guitar
playing is a far cry, stylistically speaking from his piano style, his guitar licks creating a soundscape reminiscent
of a Black Keys record.

‘A Fresh Harvest From Old Seeds’ is sonically huge, a testament to Jeff Lang’s incredible and perhaps
sometimes underrated producing skills and also features some stunning vocal female harmony performances
by long-time musical collaborators, Lisa Marmur and Sabrina McKenzie which adds a pop infused nod to a 70’s
Dr John. Dave Brewer’s unique bell-like Stratocaster tone rings free and breezy throughout the record which
along with his take on a New Orleans sound, includes a few sultry and searing ballads that groove like a Bill
Withers and Nina Simone collaboration.

In the last few years alone, Damon has featured as a writer, a filmmaker and a prolific songwriter. In a
harkening to the years to come, perhaps, as Damon says in the song, ‘The Sun and The Moon’…"My rise has
just begun"...
