about

Recently, Damon Smith had an argument with his Wife. There was some gnashing of teeth, a few harsh words and some cold hard truths aired, and at the end of the disagreement, Smith made an emotional dash out the back door, fighting back tears as he scampered through the backyard and into his studio where he sat slumped at his piano, plodding around in the key of D minor while thinking about what he will say in the inevitable, post disagreement conversation that will soon occur.
“I’ve been avoiding you”, he says to himself as he rehearses the next conversation in his head, “hoping you swallowed your tongue so you couldn’t tell me that this is the sort of man you’ve become.”
Vocally, it’s a bit soul, but sonically, it stays true to Smith’s alt country-ish vibe and features a guitar solo that could have well come from the hands of Nels Cline, WILCO. J
As a songwriter, it seems that exposing his troubles and woes, comes very easily for him. In ‘THESE ARE DAYS’, he describes in a wry and candid way, how he came to understand that sometimes, he can be a bit of selfish buffoonLand that perhaps he needs to encourage his skeletons to leave the closet for a frank and earnest chat over a chamomile tea.

lyrics

I've been avoiding you and hoping you'd swallow your tongue, so you couldn't tell me...."this is the man you have become."
